We had a fantastic weekend with Ralph Hill. It was both of our’s first clinic and we walked away with a lot. Ralph loved Lin, and went on and on about how talented she is and how I’ve really found a nice one. He even joked with my trainer about buying her from me.
Before I post the highlight moments, I thought I would show some (of many) of our green moments. Because they’re hilarious. (These were all on day 1, gymnastics day)
Here we see Carlin trying to impress Ralph by showing him how high she can hurl herself over the tiny vertical.
Here Carlin attempts to impress him with her creative jump style. Oo, ah.
And can we please also address what else Ellen Page said: That there was a machinery at work that kept her in the closet, and that this caused her actual damage—to her mental health and her private life.
If we focus on her decision to live “authentically” versus “living a lie” I feel like we’re participating in a game of victim blaming—as if she was being dishonest, ie less trust worthy or a bad person before.
This is not about her owing others the truth. This is exclusively about her refusing to back down when facing the actual threat imposed on her by straight people.
THAT is what makes coming out brave. That is why we should celebrate her.
My professor / mentor Dr. Trisha Franzen is her biographer, so I feel the need to post.
Anna Howard Shaw was a fantastic women’s suffragist who worked closely with Susan B. Anthony and formed a life partnership with her niece… and flings with a few other women** (suspected.)
She paid her way through seminary school in 1873 at Albion College in MI and though she received a lot of backlash for being a female preacher, she did it anyway. She then studied at Boston University of Theology and was the only woman out of her 42 classmates.
She was the head of the North American Women’s Suffrage Association for 14 years, eventually turning control over to Carrie Chapman Catt.
I have now run out of my reserve of Anna Howard Shaw information, for more, wait for my prof’s biography coming out in a few months!
I have an opinion and this is it. You are not born with an addiction! He chose to do drugs and He died from his choice not because he was born that way. For a "brilliant" actor he sure did make a heinous decision! Oh well.
hi anon you have a shitty opinion
did you know that phillip seymour hoffman’s struggled with an addiction and not a habit? did you know that if he wanted to stop he couldn’t because despite the fact that you aren’t born with an addiction when you have one because you often can’t control because of mental or physical reasons
did you know that phillip seymour hoffman has struggled with addiction for 23 years of his life? addiction doesn’t just go away after you stop it or once you start it, it’s a sickness that he so sadly could not escape despite his lengthy efforts and god bless him for keeping clean for such a long time.
addiction isn’t temporary, it’s something that you live with for your entire life and to say “oh well” about his death is the biggest insult to addicts, recovering addicts, the family and friends of addicts and people who have fucking died from their addictions but hey they’re consciously making “heinous” decisions about their lives so who cares if they live or die as a result, especially when 3 kids lose a father
